When it comes to life’s fun and games, always know:
The rules.
What’s at stake.
When to quit.
The Bet, an all new laugh out loud rom com from New York Times bestselling author Max Monroe is available now!
Wise words from…well…my fortune cookie. But wise words, nonetheless.
I just wish the Fortune Cookie People had considered how hard the whole “knowing when to quit” would be to carry out when a woman like me is gambling with her feelings.
Heart-palpitating, vageen-tingling, butterflies-in-my-belly feelings for a noncommittal, hot-as-sin player by the name of Jude Winslow.
After a crazy night where we were both pretending to be someone else, I’ve found myself immersed in the fun of the fling.
The thrill.
The irresistible charm.
The pleasure of being with a man like him.
Problem is, I’m positive he’s the exact opposite of husband material, and that is a serious issue for someone who is fixated on finding her happily ever after.
I know the rules and I know the stakes, oh wise Fortune Cookie.
Now I’d just like to know how close to self-destruction I have to get before I find the will to quit Jude Winslow.
Goodness knows, when your heart is on the line, you can’t ante up your bet with an IOU.
When we first met Winnie Winslow all those years ago, there was her brothers and you have to wonder how Wes charmed the heck out of them given their aversion to commitment. Well we finally the answers, well some of time and it’s home coming of sort as we get the adorable Lexi and a dose of West to boot.
The Bet allows to get into the head of Jude the youngest of the bunch Jude, the party animal. He is built a career of making clubs prosper as a club promoter. He lives in the moment, never committing to a relationship, just hooking up and never staying the night. It’s his way of living and nothing is going to change. He seen the damage and doesn’t want to get hurt.
Until Sophie enters the picture and turns his life upside down before he even realises what is happening.
Sophie is a woman on a mission. She the last single woman in her family and she wants a HEA like her sisters. She isn’t for the moment, she wants forever. However she isn’t quite ready to go the mile to get a man that she deems husband material.
Jude is anything but that and a bet isn’t the best way to start a relationship especially given the scenario of how they met. They are set up to fail as they seem to be opposites on paper and want different things in life. However Max Monroe has proven time and time again , love can win if you put in the hard work.
This romantic comedy plays to the best of the leads’ characteristics which goes a long way in helping convince the reader they are meant to be. Jude the loveable and live in the moment guy and Sophie who is pushing her boundaries in the name of love and finds herself in a crisis like many other people of her age . It’s not over the top comedy but straight up live in the moment romance. With a clueless Jude and loved up Sophie who is willing to do anything as she knows what she has is special.
It’s been a while since I have picked up book from this author duo. It’s the right time given the connection to one of my favourite characters from them. The authors do well to redeem Jude given the family aversion and the fact is the brothers all have different ways of coping with it. Jude resting on the laurels o the past that isn’t his, is a bit of a barrier but love has a funning way of dealing with things.
The ending was perfect for these two and hopefully we will get glimpses of them in the rest of the series as their family seems to get shaken to the core in the name of love.
